Can plants renew a post-industrial world?

I like the contrast and symmetry presented by tropical ferns growing on, and enfolding, the industrial strata I plant them on. The metal inclusions are all stainless steel. And basically all my vertical planters are built around re-purposed industrial felt, consisting of various grades and densities of polyester. .
